There are many things you can do during summer, plenty of activities to do by yourself, or with friends and family. You could stay in your home town and have fun or even branch out. The limit of things you can do does not exist, as long as you’re having fun!

If you’re planning a “stay-cation”, don’t worry, there are a few things you can do around Porterville. Such as our Freedom Fest, Dive-In Theater, or even Music on Main Street – Spring Series.  The Freedom Fest which is presented by the City of Porterville and Tulare River Tribe. There’s entertainment for the whole family, with live music, games, vendors, and BBQ. The time this event occurs is June 29th, at the Sports Complex, $5 per car load. The Dive-In Theater is where you can watch a movie from inside the City Pool! A fantastic time with the family, it occurs July 19th and 26th, as well as August 2nd and 9th, costing $5 for a family up to 6; gates open at 7:30pm. The Music on Main Street- Spring Series the Music on Main features local talent every Friday evening from 6:00pm-8:00pm in April, May and June, bring your lawn chair and relax and enjoy the music.

If you want to get away from Porterville, there are other places you can go during summer to have fun. Places like Big Bear Hiking, where you can do plenty of things. Such as biking, bowling, camping, fishing, boating, etc. Or you could stay inside the center, and play some arcade games. Big Bear is found here in California. You could even go camping up in our foothills, anywhere that’s affordable to you.

As you can see, there’s an endless amount of activities you can do during the summer of 2013. Whether it is here in Porterville or New Mexico, you don’t have any excuse to say, “Mom, I’m bored!” The choice of activity is yours to grab. Suffice to say you can even stare at your ceiling.
